The work environment
Each work setting has its own culture. While some settings stress team work, sharing responsibilities, and mutual support, others are more militaristic, emphasizing seniority, paying “dues,” individual achievement, and competition.
The work environment, relationships with colleagues, and the overall culture of the “station” can all impact the day-to-day stress of a paramedic. This is carried on top of the ever-present demands of shift work with long and variable hours.
