Chapter 4: When you're concerned
Resources for the paramedic
Talking with someone outside the family about the stresses of work is often a good option. Informal and professional supports include:
- A Peer Support Program.
- The family doctor.
- A partner-paramedic or close friend, in or outside of work.
- A trusted supervisor, instructor, or mentor.
- A professional counsellor or therapist, perhaps through an Employee Assistance Program.
- A leader or member of a faith or spiritual
Some paramedics are extremely reluctant to access help. Offer to accompany them to the first meeting if that would make it easier for them.
