Opportunities for personal growth
It’s important to periodically reflect on how you've made a constructive difference to a family and what you might do differently next time. You may be surprised to find that small things made a big difference. It’s also possible that you’ll never know how your actions helped someone, even years from now. Not knowing how you helped doesn’t mean you didn’t. One of the biggest challenges in paramedicine is doing your best and then detaching from any outcomes you hoped for, including the certain knowledge you made a difference. Celebrate and hold on to those moments when you receive direct thanks and affirmation from patients and families.
This series of prompts is intended to further your reflection and advance your practice:
What worked well in this call? Why did it work well?
What would I do differently next time?
What have I learned about patients, families and myself?
